Joe Barsanti

Collaborative Composer | Lyricist | Theatre Artist

Joe Barsanti (he/him/his) identifies as a queer and autistic composer, lyricist, and theatre artist currently living in Philadelphia. He studied composition in Chicago and later received a B.A. in Vocal Performance and Theatre. Joe studied composition with Dr. Eliza Brown, Dr. Ilya Levinson, and Dr. Drew Baker, orchestration with Dr. Ken Kumpf, musical theatre writing with Phil Kern, and lyric writing with Marcy Heisler (Ever After) and Adam Gwon (Ordinary Days), and is a Dramatist Guild Foundation National Musical Theater Fellow (2024-2025). He has also taken courses with The Musical Creators Institute, where he was mentored by Sam Carner (Unlock’d) , Anna K. Jacobs (Teeth), and Andrea Daly (Silver Linings Playbook). His first musical, Oak Island, had a staged workshop performance in 2022 in Indianapolis. He is the resident composer for the Roll Gay Role Play Network, works as a freelance theatrical sound designer, and is also an actor, vocalist, vocal arranger, music director, pit conductor, orchestrator, and music engraver.
